There has been a lot of hype about Cuenca being the best place to live in the world. Well, that's an opinion. As promised, here is our video on 12 annoying things about Cuenca Ecuador, according to our perspective, in fact, you may not agree with everything said in this video. We still like Cuenca and we always will, but this video lets people know the REAL Cuenca according to our views. Even though each of us in our family has a few annoyances it surely doesn't mean we wouldn't want to live here.

  1. Just posted this on YouTube...
What internet service do you have? DSL, Cable, Satellite? And do they have different speeds for different pricing? Are there particular places within the city that are better set up for Internet access? Can you see Hulu or Netflix? Wondering because I'm heading your way soon...

BTW, thank you so much for sharing your REAL experiences! Really!!!

  2. We use Etapa. We have the fastest/highest speed Internet that Etapa offers. There are two other Interent companies here, but we have never tried them, yet.

We had Netflix before we moved. Netlix is not in S.A. We've tried streaming Hulu, but it is a constant battle to see streaming movies with Hulu. Much patience is needed, like we said in the video. So, no, Hulu and no netflix.

Internet is best early in the morning for some reason.

  3. Hi.. I like ur vids dunno but I like to see what other people from other countries think about Ecuador.

Few things to make ur new life in Ecuador better.

*Ecuador is a very chilled minded country so things runs slower than the us. People don't complain that's why sometimes the system still slow. so If u need something to do it sooner just make a complain/call/write bothering them until u get what u asked. don't be afraid.

    * Try mercadolibre.com a web where u can sell and buy second hand/new items a bit like e-bay you can actually meet the seller/buyer and do hand by hand deal. no fees not nothing.

    * Try a different internet company. My family uses the Ecuanet which is a company from Secretaria general de Telecomunicaciones which u can have broadband from $30 very cheap cos it's a state company with good service and without cuts.

*If they "stare" at u just smile at them and say "Hola"

    * As u said try to get involve with the locals, do sports and try to learn some spanish it will make ur life much much easier.

And from me a v warm welcome to Ecuador.

  5. Try downloading tunnelbear. All your Netflix problems will be gone - you can use Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, etc. The basic version is free.

  6. Thanks for your comment Jane.

Are you using Tunnelbear from Ecuador yourself? Because we already tried two proxies. The difficulty is that when the internet cuts out, as it usually does, or slows waaaaay down at peak hours (just when we want to watch a movie) the prozy falters along with it.
