Expat Relocation with Children: Ecuadorian “American School” in Cuenca (Part 5 of 5)

This is the last segment of our five part video series featuring Macrina Serrano and her son Rueben. Macrina has been very helpful in talking with us about the rental market, safety, churches, activities and schools in Cuenca Ecuador. In this segment we talk more about the two schools here in Cuenca that have English speaking Ecuadorian and gringo students who attend; but this school is Spanish speaking. If you would like more information about the Ecuadorian school which is called the “American School” let us know and we will give you the contact information.

  1. This is great information! I have been following your blog for a while. Just love it. You have hit right on the issues of my concern and the school part very reassuring. I have a 9 yr old child. Hope one day we get to meet!

  2. Hi Enza,

Thank you...glad you are enjoying the blog. If your child already speaks Italian they will learn Spanish easier, and even be able to understand some of it. Spanish and Italian are similar languages. So when do you think you'll be visiting Cuenca?

  3. Hello,

I am looking for a teaching job in or near Cuenca. I have taught in both the USA and Mexico, am a native English speaker, am effective and flexible with a good sense of humor. My husband (Armando Gutierrez Bravo) is a general contractor who has managed an organic ranch in Mexico. We would like to spend a few years working and living in Ecuador. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Katherine Kelly Bravo

  5. I have just found this website and see part 5 of 5 school in Cuenca. I really want to follow my dream and live in Ecuador with my children. Currently 12 and 11 and homeschooled but would like to put them in school in Ecuador. I'm very interested in your opinion of where you think an American family would fit in best in Ecuador. I've seen Cuenca, Quito, Cotacachi. I want to be in a family oriented area. We are not from a big city so that is not important to us. We want to feel comfortable, safe, integrate into their society and have friends. Of course we are on a budget and would love somewhere where we might have an opportunity to find a job supplement.
